Dark Forest (Place of No Stars)

Subject: Dark Forest (Place of No Stars) Sun Apr 14, 2013 7:37 pm

The Dark Forest is a dark, shadowy forest with lots of tall, dank, gray trees. It is mentioned to be a dull, vast empty place- the complete opposite of StarClan's hunting grounds, which are warm and sunny. The air is cold, thick, foggy and damp and it has an echoing silence. The Dark Forest also has a black and starless sky, and the trees are so tall, you can't see anything above them, allowing no light whatsoever to reach it. Mist is mentioned to wreathe the thick, sticky, bare forest floor. It has a sluggish river, its waters dark and lifeless with no stepping stones or fallen trees to be used to cross it, and around the river is sucking mud. Fungus sickly glows on trees, and there is no grass.

The border between the Dark Forest and StarClan is a white, eerie light. Here the grass is thin where it eventually disappears. At this point the air is so foggy that it is hard to breathe and see anything in front of you.

Cleargaze was curled up in the hollow of one of the trees, resting after wondering around lost in her thoughts. Her usually white pelt was covered in mud, but she didn't care anymore, she was a loner, and preferred staying that way.

Two figures slipped out from the shadows spotting a mud covered cat. One of the smirked while the other chuckled. Both slipped back into the dark, as the shadows of the trees swallowed them into darkness.

Cleargaze was unaware of any danger, but rose her head up and looked around, before yawning and setting her head down on her paws. I never should have gone after those rouges, she thought to herself silently.

The two figures circle around in the shadows before stepping out silently behind where the cat was curled up.
"Lost?" The first figure sneered, his voice was cold, his blue eyes flickered as his companion chuckled next to him.

Cleargaze looked up at the two figures and shook her head no. She had been through this before, cats would often challenge her and quite frankly, she found it more amusing than anything. However, this would be her first two on one challenge before.

The tom chuckled," What are you doing here then?" his sharp teeth flashed in the dark as his partner slipped out of the shadows, her white fur shown a little.

Cleargaze would have told them she lived there, but... she couldn't speak. Given her crimes, part of her punishment was that her muteness would remain forever. However, she rose up, and simply let out a little sigh, about the only noise she could manage.

The tom chuckled again and his partner slid out of the shadows, both circling the she-cat. The other cat, a beautiful white she-cat narrowed her eyes, her one blue and one orangeish eye gazed at the strange cat before them.
"The mute one," she muttered to the other cat.
The other cat peered curiously at the strange white cat before him and his partner, "Oh, that one," he snorted, his whiskers twitched with amusement. Both of them had heard about this mute cat, the one that refused to join Starclan's ranks.
Both cats sat down, aware that the cat would not be a threat as both curled their tails neatly around their paws.
"Is there someway you can communicate?"

Cleargaze shook her head no, relaxing for a minute. Although she wondered what these two cats wanted, there wouldn't be much harm in hearing them out. But, she could tell they didn't seem quite as hostile anymore.

"Cleargaze, that's your name correct?" the white she-cat spoke her two different colored eyes trained on the other white she-cat.

Cleargaze nodded, but otherwise stayed quiet. These cats sure seem interested. I wonder what's up with them? I'm nothing special anyways, a mute she cat who murdered several rouges. She thought, each murder flashing through her mind briefly. She had sometimes cried after she had killed them, but by the time she had let go of her anger, it was too late, the foul deeds had been done.

"Stories have been told around here about you," the tom spoke this time in a deep calm, but icy voice, his green eyes flickered again, " are they true?"

Gleargaze tipped her head in confusion, then began drawing lines in the ground. Working silently, she kept drawing until she had drawn 13 lines, then stomped, and began to cross them out, as if to say something had happened to them. The mute cat was trying to convey she had killed 13 cats.

Both cats tilted their head curiously. The watched her draw out the lines then cross them out one by one.
"Are those the cats she killed?" the white she-cat muttered to her companion. The tom shrugged and looked at the other white she-cat,"Are they the cats you killed?"

Cleargaze nodded slowly. The images of the kills once again in her mind, but she pushed them back, more interested in trying to tell her story than her bad memories.

"sounds like one of our kind eh Snowbite?" the tom chuckled his green eyes glowed more as the white she-cat snorted.

Cleargaze would have told the tom that her killing days where over, if she could speak. Well, perhaps they feel the need for revenge or something along those lines, but me, no. Besides, I've done more than my fare share of killing, She thought. Of course the she cat would have never thought about killing another cat before she had ran away from her clan, so it wouldn't be too impossible for her to find a reason to fight.

Both cats stepped away from the mute cat and spoke quietly among each other.
"She would be useful, with that past of hers, she could help us crush the weak pitiful ranks of Starclan ," The tom muttered turning back to look at the other she-cat.
"Do you think she will. Think again Scorch, the stories had said that she joined the ranks of our kind because she felt that it was wrong for her to be with Starclan, that doesn't make her one of us even if she's in the Place of No Stars. I say we leave her out of our plans." Snowbite hissed at the tom. Both turned back to the she-cat, "time to leave." She announced and turned to the mute cat dipping her head briefly to the other white cat," It was a pleasure to meet you, but it is best that Scorch and I leave."

Cleargaze watched the two cats, not really hearing what they where saying but not too interested. When Snowbite bid her farewell, she nodded and dipped her head slightly, both in agreement and Farewell.

Both Scorch and Snowbite slid back into the shadows silently and mysteriousness appeared into the dark .

Cleargaze watched them go silently, then curled up, trying to go to sleep, which was not easy. Although she could understand why a cat might want revenge, she had to remember that these cats belonged here due to their crimes. However, in her mind it was also where she belonged.

Snowbite and Scorch roamed around the looked around. It was all quiet, for a moment the stood in silence then as if they read each others' minds they dipped their heads to each other and slipped off into different directions.

Cleargaze dreamed of hunting in the clans, how she often would bring back prey. She also remembered how she had ran off, how she had let her anger get the best of her. This was her eternal nightmare, if she managed to get to sleep, it was always this dream. The cat woke up with a start, huffing loudly before realizing she was back in the dark forest. She snorted and stood up, eager to explore. This is where you belong. maybe if you haden't murder those rouges, you'd feel more worthy to join starclan, she thought, though she knew full well that she had chosen to join the dark forest. The young cat had many reasons, her muteness, her murders, and her disloyalty to her clan.

Scorch sniffed the air, nothing, except a brief whiff of Snowbite's scent. She must be close by... the tom snorted. He settled down in a quite area where the shadows hid him from view. He though for a moment about his old life back in the clans as he sunk his claws into the cold earth. How could he have been so mouse-brained to have fallen for a soft cat like Lilymoon, yes she was beautiful, but she was to soft, friends with others from other clans, helping other clan cats who didn't belong to their clan. The thoughts sickened Scorch as he shook the memories out of his head. The kept one dark secret to himself, he had never told a single cat about the last murders he had committed. They still haunt him, images of his dead mate and their dead kits.

Snowbite watched her comrade from the trees, she chuckled to herself before leaping onto another tree. She thought of the rumors that have been spread in the Place of No Stars about her life. They were true, but she had never spoken about any of it to anyone. That one tom had ruined her life. They were in the same clan, but that wasn't enough for him was it? She had found him out one night by following him, and discovered that he was seeing another she-cat, but it no longer mattered, she didn't care about how her heart was shattered back in the days she lived. She wanted revenge on all living cats, they deserved to feel the burning pain that she had once experienced.
